UFBU calls for a 2-day nationwide bank strike over privatization, key services to be affected

  • During the budget announcement, Union FM Nirmala Sitharaman declared the privatization of two public sector banks to generate ₹ 1.75 lakh crore.
  • The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has called for a two-day nationwide strike on March 15 and 16.
  • According to the sources, over 10 lakh bank employees and officers will be a part of the strike.
  • The 9 bank unions that will take part in the strike called by UFBU are AIBOC, NCBE, AIBEA, AIBOC, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBO, NOBW.
  • Due to the strike, services like deposits and withdrawal at branches, cheque clearance, and loan approvals will be affected. But, ATMs will remain functional.
