  • A majority of 76% hospitals were found to have defective wiring or overloading issues, making them extremely susceptible to fire incidents triggered by short-circuits.
  • Of the 364 designated covid hospitals – both private and government –  so far, 230 were found to have defective wiring and other electrical supply problems, while 50 hospitals have issues of electrical overloading.
  • The CEI has ordered these hospitals to take corrective steps immediately to prevent occurrence of fire because of electrical malfunctioning.
  • A senior fire officer from Gujarat told the newspaper that about 65-70% of fire incidents in Gujarat could be attributed to the shortcircuit or electrical defect.
