Assam: Govt Collects Rs 100 Crore as Revenue From Liquor Sales, Increase Excise Duty by 25%
In the last 5 days, Sarbanand Sonowal govt has collected over Rs 100 Crores as revenue from liquor sales.
Assam Excise minister Primal Suklabaidya said that liquor shops were opened as a part of lockdown relaxations, but if the shop owner doesn't follow social distancing they will shut them.
He also said that the state cabinet has decided to increase the excise duty on MRP of liquor bottle by 25% as the state had to face a huge loss due to the lockdown.
The Assam Excise dept data, on an average, people of the state have consumed 92.09 lakh bulk liter of liquor per month.
Earlier Delhi govt also raised the VAT on liquor by 70%.
