Maharashtra Denied Permission for Nizamuddin-like Event Near Mumbai in March
Maharashtra's HM Anil Deshmukh said that Maharashtra police canceled a large religious congregation in Vasai just days before the event was to begin last month.
They canceled the permission in the light COVID-19 pandemic as the event, to be held in Vasai, was to be attended by 50,000 people, including foreign nationals.
A trust named Shamim Education and Welfare Society sought permission to organize a grand congregation- Tablighi Ijtema on March 14 and 15, at Diwanman village in Vasai West.
They wrote letters to police seeking permission to hold the program and it was granted on February 5, 2020.
But, by the beginning of March, the news about COVID-19 spread and HM asked local police to strictly warn the organizers against having any such congregation at all.
