FIR Filed Against Journalist Who Questioned Yogi's Visit to Ram Janmabhoomi Amid Lockdown
A senior journalist was booked for questioning UP CM Yogi Adiyanath's visit to Ram Janmbhoomi for a religious ceremony during the lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier 'The Wire' editor Siddharth Varadarajan tweeted that on the day when Tablighi Jamaat was held Yogi planned a large Ram Navmi Mela and said that Lord Ram will protect the devotees.
Later in another tweet, he clarified that it was Acharya Paramhans who said Ram would protect devotees from COVID-19, and not the CM, though he defied the lockdown and took part in it.
After this Faizabad Kotwali police station incharge Nitish Kumar Shrivastava registered an FIR under sections 188 and 505(2) of the IPC for doing "disreputable" comment against the CM.
Siddharth reacted on the FIR and termed it as 'politically motivated' and said that the offenses invoked were not even remotely made out.
