FIR Filed Against Journalist Who Questioned Yogi's Visit to Ram Janmabhoomi Amid Lockdown

  • A senior journalist was booked for questioning UP CM Yogi Adiyanath's visit to Ram Janmbhoomi for a religious ceremony during the lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Earlier 'The Wire' editor Siddharth Varadarajan tweeted that on the day when Tablighi Jamaat was held Yogi planned a large Ram Navmi Mela and said that Lord Ram will protect the devotees.
  • Later in another tweet, he clarified that it was Acharya Paramhans who said Ram would protect devotees from COVID-19, and not the CM, though he defied the lockdown and took part in it.
  • After this Faizabad Kotwali police station incharge Nitish Kumar Shrivastava registered an FIR under sections 188 and 505(2) of the IPC for doing "disreputable" comment against the CM.
  • Siddharth reacted on the FIR and termed it as 'politically motivated' and said that the offenses invoked were not even remotely made out.
