Coronavirus: Health Ministry Orders State and UTs to Take Steps to Stop Fake News

  • Union Health Ministry has ordered all states and UTs to take effective measures against fake news during coronavirus and nationwide lockdown.
  • Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla informed Chief Secretaries of all states that Centre will soon create a web-portal for people to verify facts and unverified news promptly. 
  • He also asked the states to submit their Action Taken Report to the ministry to enable it to apprise the SC.
  • SC earlier asked the center to submit a status report on the steps taken by the for preventing the spread of coronavirus in India.
  • The report was submitted on March 31 and the next date of hearing is on April 7.
