Maharashtra Govt To Take Action Against People Spreading Fake News

  • Maharashtra govt warned people of the state against spreading rumours or sending fake messages on April 1 (April Fools' Day).
  • The govt said that it could lead to a situation of panic amid the novel coronavirus outbreak. 
  • The state govt said that cases will be registered under the IT Act against anyone found guilty of such acts.
  • The police will also be monitoring social media handles. 
  • The Mumbai police on Monday registered a case against one person who had sent a WhatsApp message in a group saying the military is being deployed in Mumbai.
