Coronavirus: Poultry Farmers In Maharashtra Demands Compensation From Centre After Heavy Loss

  • Rumours that coronavirus can be transmitted through consumption of chicken and eggs have caused a massive loss to poultry farmers.
  • A loss of Rs 700 crore was marked due to a sharp fall in demand for chicken and eggs.
  • A charge of poultry owners called on NCP president, Sharad Pawar, and animal husbandry and dairy minister, Sunil Kedar, to demand financial compensation for the heavy losses.
  • Kedar said that they have demanded that the losses suffered by them should be compensated by the central and state governments.
  • “When the market was hit by bird flu a few years ago, the central and state governments had sanctioned compensation per bird, and the similar package should be given to us”, the poultry owners submitted.
