Local Body Polls to be Held in Jammu and Kashmir

  • According to reports, the J&K administration has decided to hold local body polls in the UT.
  • J&K Chief electoral officer Shailendra Kumar said, "Panchayat elections for vacant posts of every block will be held using ballot boxes. It will be conducted in eight phases."
  • "The massive exercise will be conducted in eight phases. The model code conduct has come into forces in J&K," Kumar said.
  • Let us tell you that this will be the first major political exercise since the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year.
  • The UT is now governed by the LT Governor GC Murmu who was appointed by the center.
