Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray appealed to the public to stay at home.
He assured them that shops selling essential commodities and vegetables would remain open during the mandatory lockdown period of 21 days, imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Thackeray told viewers stories of how families have come together to play, sing and dine while under lockdown.
"I have received messages saying families are playing cards and carom together. They are spending time with each other."
"This is a positive sign. At home, I am listening to Mrs. Chief Minister. You also listen to your Home Minister," he said in a lighter vein.
