Time For Introspection
From 54.3 % vote share in assembly elections 2015 to 26.21% votes share in MCD elections 2017, Aam Aadmi Party is in shock. Resignations are being submitted by senior leaders and the party is being mocked at on Social Networking Sites. Swords of words are being pointed at Party Supreme Arvind Kejriwal by opponents as well as some of his leaders. On Wednesday, the much awaited Delhi MCD results came out. Surprisingly, the ruling party in Delhi Assembly AAP could manage to get only 46 seats out of 270 whereas Congress continued its poor performance in Delhi with as low as 30 Seats. Swaraj Abhiyan Party of Yogender Yadav could not even open their account. Manoj Tiwary came out to be a new hero of Delhi BJP. Bhojpuri actor was given the responsibility of MCD Elections and under his leadership; BJP won all the three MCD’s for the third consecutive term. Although Congress and AAP both were rejected by the people of Delhi yet defeat of AAP is more discussed and talked about. Aam Aadmi Party was elected in power in the Assembly Elections 2 Years ago. Since then Kejriwal Government was fighting for the full statehood of Delhi. They were in fighting terms with the appointed LG’s of the state, Police Force and other Central bodies for various reasons related with governance. AAP government claimed themselves to be the guard of the rights of the poor people. They always criticized the central government for not giving them free hands to work by restricting them through LG’s and other Central Bodies. AAP government blamed BJP led MCD for improper functioning. Whenever went in public, Kejriwal strongly condemned the Central Government and other opponents. Instead of telling people what he did, he used to tell people what he could not do due to LG, Police, Central Government, CBI etc. Kejriwal focused more on blaming others than to put his works in front of public. To be sweet with words is the first requirement for success and to stand with your words is the second. Kejriwal seemed to be a bit deviated from both of these principles. He was not very polite whenever he spoke. He raised questions about internal democracy of the other political parties in his earlier days. He condemned BJP and congress for contesting elections with a single face. But even his party could not produce a face other than Mr. Kejriwal for Punjab Assembly Elections and Delhi MCD elections. Most of the posters for MCD elections had only Kejriwal as face. Some posters even missed the name of the party. This contradiction of AAP must have forced people to rethink about the uniqueness of the party. Either people lost their faith in the party or they want the governing party to introspect. The defeat in MCD elections was followed by a number of resignations in the party. The party is blaming EVM for the loss. But resignations or blaming is not the solution. The party needs to answer some uncomfortable questions like are they becoming the same which they criticized initially?, Are they still fighting for common man? Etc. The party needs to introspect.
